Nothing.

perhaps this paradoxical "topic" is one with which we here have dealt a little more, or a little more consciously, than the average population.. we used to have our heads full of beliefs (which we called "truth") in every direction: on theology, on cosmology, on paleontology, on past history, on so-called prophetic future, on heaven above, on earth, on she'ol beneath.

on many things -- current events, traditions, other peoples' beliefs and behaviours -- we had strong opinions which were directly or indirectly (the famous "conscience" matters) part of the same deal.

and of course our life was filled with activities and relationships, a community of "friends," people to "help" or "teach," etc.. then, gradually or suddenly, we came to suspect, often with a measure of terror, that all of this was not what we had thought and might sooner or later turn into... nothing.. this "nothing" is perhaps one of the most scary thoughts to people contemplating leaving the org one way or another.

I think, therfore I am. Is there anyone capable of really shutting out the noise? It is our own consciousness that causes fear because we have no gauruntees in life. Animals don't worry but I wouldn't say they get really excited about life either. It is said we evolved huge brains to control an out of control nervous system.

Does your study of philosophy, language and religion convince you there is nothing but our own constructs to rid us of these inherent fears? I still have a hard time getting my mind around this God shaped hole. Does that mean that God is nothing? If there were no noise from doctrines values etc. Would that be Utopia? I have a hard time following even this post but I feel it is an attempt by you to reach out to all, not just intellects as yourself. I don't know if I fully understand you my freind when you write, but I get the feeling you are a humanist that definately has values and I wave back to you.

Holy crap Warlock, you mean she doesn't know how you feel on matters. Guilt is a very powerful tool. If the world used the guilt card the way the witnesses are able too, politicians would be beside themselves with glee. They can only pull that shit because of the family and social dynamic they have created.

You have a tug of war going on here. Is this something you want to continue with, in your face for the next, God knows how long? Thats a tough one. It's one that my older brother has to deal with now as well. If she can plant seeds so can can you. I hope this board keeps ya frosty dude!

i don't know the date but it must be in the jan issues of the awake magazine between 1999-2004. it mentioned the subject of automobiles and it had a photo of a 16 cylendar cadillac and the man next to is no other than judge rutherford himself.

has anyone seen that article?

It sure took massive cahonies for that fat drunkard to drive a car like that during the thirties and he had two of them. Everyone one else was lucky if they had a pot to piss in and a window to throw it out. Him I despise the most in all of witness history. It takes even bigger balls for the watchtower to have the audacity to even put it in a magazine but I suppose it dosen't matter if they did. If the witnesses beleive he was God's right hand man I guess he can pretty do whatever he pleased including clandestine sex with his little girlfreind I can't remember her name if anyone remembers please post it. I think it was pearl something. Oh I almost forgot about his 5 residences and also how he used get booze smuggled in during prohibition. Imagine that fat ass having the chutzpah to think the bible was indicating him in 1919 and then being arrogant enough to claim that the anceint wortrhies were going to come and claim the property that he had constructed on 4440 braeburn drive. Peoples gulibility in those days must have been legendary. Not one word that arrogant jerk wrote from 1916 to 1942 is taken seriously even by witnesses today. Meanwhile he was the first to start up the business of shunning and ruining peoples lives for things that are considered ridiculous today. He was an arrogant bully that had double standards for everyone, hated by his own family. It must be nice to have holy spirit like that.

i've finally realized what my heart has been questioning for many years...'the truth', quite possibly/probably...is not.

meanwhile..........i have a wife, and child........both of which are firmly in the grasp of my former beliefs.

Passive Suicide, I was born in that crap and it's amazing you have the insight at this stage of the game to realize there is something wrong. Your gut is definately telling you something. Run with it bud. Trust me, you are not doing your kids a favour raising them this way. Check out why, on "The wanderer's" thread on what is it like to grow up a Jehovah's witness. I feel for your situation.This board is a great source of support as I'm sure you already know. WELCOME
